ABSTRACT

Many therapists (particularly trainees) want to develop a sense of certainty in their work, and in relation to their clients. Sometimes this need for certainty can manifest as wanting to know what to do next, of wanting recipes or formulae to guide the therapist step-by-step through the therapy process. Novice therapists can ®nd the absence of clear, detailed and long-range instructions unsettling, frustrating and a source of anxiety.
