The essence of creative thinking The essence of creative thinking is being unafraid of ideas. This is why the ethos of playfulness-in-exploration is so important. If a pupil is in a playful mood then she is
more likely to become immersed in ideas and words to see how they work and
what they can do. Wonderment (a state) leads to wondering (a process): natural
curiosity focuses itself into ways of thinking and questioning, i.e. the very thinking
skills we are cultivating, that at their highest level express themselves in an artful
dance of synthesis and analysis; a ‘spiral dynamic’ of discovery at increasingly
sophisticated levels.
