ABSTRACT

Writing stories In this book we are concerned mainly with a basic form of writing called story or narrative prose. When people talk about prose (or prose fiction particularly) they usually mean stories. The word ‘prose’ comes from Latin and means ‘straightforward’. I think the idea is that the language we use in a story is clear, simple and to the point. ‘Narrative’, again from the Latin, means ‘to come to know’. So narrative prose is coming to know something in a straightforward way.
