ABSTRACT

First-hand experience is important in using the senses. Brian, aged seven, was taken to look at the river as part of his geography work. He stopped at the weir, where a long flat glide of water slipped over the dam wall into a raging torrent, and he wrote:

The weir. Oh how I love the river, With salmon in it and calm, With trout rings and waterfalls, Like lions roaring.
