ABSTRACT

There is an apparent paradox in capitalist development: the proletariat is supplied with weapons to fi ght by the capitalists themselves. Marx and Engels described it thus: the bourgeoisie in all its battles is compelled to appeal to the proletariat, to ask for its help and thus to drag it into the political arena. The bourgeoisie itself, therefore supplies the proletariat with its own elements of political and general education, i.e. it furnishes the proletariat with arms to fi ght the bourgeoisie.1
