ABSTRACT

The aim of this book has been to demonstrate the complexity and diversity of the phenomenon of cultural tourism. The broad definition of culture adopted from the outset has necessitated an in-depth discussion of a variety of issues, many of which are controversial, sensitive or highly politicised. However, the philosophy underpinning this book has been that culture is a contentious concept, but one which can be simultaneously inclusive or exclusive, advantageous or detrimental depending on the way in which it is managed. This final chapter discusses some of the key issues relating to the impacts of cultural tourism, as well as the management implications.
