ABSTRACT

The purpose of this chapter is to provide a comprehensive analysis of the patterns of EE immigration around the world. Eastern European's main destination areas for immigration are North America (Canada and the United States) and Western Europe. Migration to the European Union (EU) increased in magnitude and complexity in the past decades. Europe now matches North America in its significance as a region of immigration. The chapter includes a discussion on the impact of several Eastern European countries accession to the EU and its impact on migration. How this accession affects the patterns of Eastern European migration around the world is addressed. Immigration patterns to Australia, South America, Asia, and Africa are also discussed.
