ABSTRACT
Friedrich Engels (1820-95), the German social theorist and philosopher, collaborated with Karl Marx to develop the political theory of communism. Born in Prussia, he was sent in 1842 by his father’s textile company to work in Manchester, England, where he did the research for his first book, The Condition of the Working Class in England. Later he worked with Marx to write the Communist Manifesto.
