ABSTRACT

The very first stage of progressing teaching career beyond training is to apply for a job. Vacancies for jobs in independent schools are advertised in the educational press and on Internet recruitment sites. As the work profile of the nation changes and increasing numbers of people are looking for more flexibility in their work, job sharing seems to have become an interesting option. Many schools have job-sharing schemes in place, which can offer all the advantages and disadvantages of part-time teaching, as well as the added bonus of having ready-made cover should teachers need time off for any reason. The careers section of the local library will have information on job opportunities in European Union countries. Most museums, heritage and conservation sites, large companies and major charities have education officers whose job it is to liaise with visitors and generally inform the public of the work of the organization.
