ABSTRACT

Before we begin to study the skills required to be an outstanding life coach, I’d like to emphasize that skills alone won’t make you a great coach. Skills are those competencies that you are capable of, learned through experience and training. These competencies are then reflected by the doable, measureable behaviour and activities that you display on a regular basis. Underlying your skill set are two other important factors. Imagine that all your qualities put together form an iceberg. Your skills are the very top of that iceberg, visible to others. But underneath the surface, the underpinning qualities that support and nurture those skills are your areas of knowledge and your attitudinal qualities.
