ABSTRACT
Not since the time of Lyell had a new body of thought had such an immediate effect on geomorphic thinking in general as was produced by the work of the Western Surveys. This was, of course, particularly true in the United States, and its influence affected geologists in the humid East as well as Western workers. Most landscape studies began to admit readily the power of subaerial erosion.
