It was the end of class, and seated around the room at their computer stations, students in my course at the University of Wisconsin, Madison, were clapping. We, as a cohort, in a single 3½ hour class period no less, had just conceived of, researched, and written a role-play on the 1898 United States annexation of the Hawaiian Kingdom.
