ABSTRACT

The research upon which this book is based adopts a mixed-methodological approach that recognizes the complementary strengths of both the quantitative and qualitative research meta-frameworks (Denzin 1978a, 1978b; Jick 1979; Bryman 1992; Blaikie 2006). Pluralism in the use of research methods and data sources is appropriate in the theory building process, which involves both inductive and deductive modes (Hammersley 1992; Blaikie 2006). Their contributions are particularly relevant to this study where the research process goes through a number of stages and has different requirements at each stage (Mingers and Brocklesby 1995; Easterby-Smith, Thorpe, and Lowe 2002).
