Action research: what it is and what it is not

What is action research? What it is not? We do research when we want to find out something that we did not already know. We then say what we have come to know, and explain how we have come to know it. This is the case for all research, including action research. So, to appreciate what is special about action research, consider first what is involved in all kinds of research.
