ABSTRACT

The 1950s and 1960s were a time of remarkable and often dramatic change in Quebec’s history. One of the most significant transformations of this era – especially in relation to understanding the dynamics of the FLQ’s recruitment – was the rise of Quebec nationalism. In many respects, the emergence of this new strain of French-Canadian nationalism represented a realignment of the historic Canadien nationalist impulse with the ‘realities’ of modern Quebec life.
