There are no set texts that define ‘Living with Crime’, and it is worth considering an approach that encompasses films from different periods (even contemporary periods), and also worth considering an historical context for the crime film. It is important to note that the issues around crime do not merely focus on the criminals themselves, but also on those affected by crime (both direct victims and those that crime touches – families of both victims and criminals, the police and judiciary, those involved in the rehabilitation of criminals, and the wider communities affected by the diversity of crime inflicted upon them in all its many and varied forms).
