Going to the cinema Going to the cinema has been a pleasurable pastime enjoyed throughout the world for around 100 years. With a fast expanding DVD market it seems people are increasingly enjoying watching films at home (see Chapter 9 of the UK Film Council’s Statistical Yearbook 2005/6 at www.ukfilmcouncil.org.uk/information/ statistics/yearbook), but even so, the spectacle offered by the cinema experience continues to be appreciated as something distinctively different.
