ABSTRACT

Assuming current projections and research fi ndings hold true, owners and managers of small and medium enterprises will have to rely on less qualifi ed employees, requiring more training and development in order to be productive, as well as fi nd ways to retain existing productive employees

while continuing to train and develop them (Carnevale 2005). As a result, these fi rms must consider employees as an investment, much like new machines, and apply the same effort to keep employees well maintained. Training and development of employees becomes an imperative.
