ABSTRACT
Interviewing is one of the most important skills of the reporter – this is the tool you use to persuade witnesses to give their impressions and evidence. Any reporter who hopes to do a good job should be able to talk to an interviewee, quickly making them feel comfortable and willing to talk. If the interviewee does not trust the interviewer to deal with them fairly, they will not talk as freely as they would otherwise, so it is vital to build a relationship of trust as quickly as possible, even if the interview is little more than a grabbed couple of questions from a fleeing figure out on a rainy street.
