ABSTRACT

Group decision-making is about reaching consensus on a particular decision alternative. Decision alternatives may vary in quality, but often one cannot say that one alternative is `` correct'' while another alternative is `` incorrect.'' In group problem-solving situations this is different. Here, groups can reach a correct or incorrect conclusion, and one topic that has received considerable attention is how well groups do when solving problems with correct answers. Much of this research has applied social decision scheme theory, which we discussed in the previous chapter. In particular, researchers have investigated whether in a problem-solving task one correct group member is enough for the group to get the correct answer (i.e., do groups use a truth wins social decision scheme?).
