ABSTRACT

The June 1967 war between Israel and the Arab states was a defi ning moment in the modern history of the Arab world. It shattered Arab illusions about the course and benefi ts of positive neutrality. It was a blow to Arab pride and prestige. It undermined the leadership of Nasser in an unmistakable and lasting manner. It resulted in the creation of a new problem, that of the Occupied Territories, and thereby in the fading away of the original problem of the creation of Israel.
