My aim in this chapter is to try to bring together a set of debates concerning concepts of home and Heimat that have, thus far, largely been conducted in isolation from each other, across a range of different disciplines. My premise is that only a truly interdisciplinary approach, one that can synthesize the various potential insights generated in these artificially separated analyses, can supply us with an effective understanding of the central issues at stake in what I take to be one of the most central political issues confronting us, as we attempt to construct a viable cartography of the postmodern world.
