ABSTRACT

The focus of this chapter is to explore the potential for ergogenic aids to improve

high intensity exercise performance, and with this in mind it is necessary to

understand the likely fatigue factors impacting on such performance. This chapter

examines the role of creatine, alkalinisers, and beta-alanine as potentially useful

supplements because the abundance of evidence portrays them as such. In spite

of the more recent wealth of information pointing to the effi cacy of caffeine for

such activities, this is covered in another chapter.
