ABSTRACT
Archaeological interest in the First World War in Flanders, was, until recently, the preserve only of amateur archaeologists and collectors of Great War memorabilia. In these circumstances, it is clear that such activity could be termed archaeology only in very general terms, and certainly the investigated sites were neither excavated nor interpreted according to modern scientific archaeological methodologies.
