ABSTRACT

This chapter concerns the ways in which you and your pupils can use dialogue to critically enquire into controversial global issues within citizenship education (CE). It provides a brief overview of one such controversial issue – community cohesion. While citizenship teachers need to maintain their powers of critical analysis, and apply them to their various professional contexts, pupils also have much to gain from learning critical perspectives on their issues of concern. One way of teaching criticality, and the ability to engage in constructive dialogue, is presented here.
