ABSTRACT

Although this chapter is concerned with the coaching team, as the title suggests, it would be more accurate to state that the sport psychologist should seek to work with all members of the backroom staff irrespective of their role with the team. This group would typically include the manager, the assistant manager, first team coach, reserve team manager and goalkeeping coach. In addition, some of this work can extend to providing support and guidance to sport science related staff, such as those involved in performance analysis, strength and conditioning, fitness, medical and physiotherapy provision and scouting. In some cases the youth development coaching team, or academy staff, could also be another group that could benefit from this type of activity.
