ABSTRACT

According to the most recent edition of the Standards for Educational and Psychological Testing (AERA, APA, NCME, 1999), “Validity refers to the degree to which evidence and theory support the interpretations of test scores entailed by proposed uses of test scores” (1999, p. 9). To validate a proposed interpretation or use of test scores is to evaluate the claims being based on the test scores. The specific mix of evidence needed for validation depends on the inferences being drawn and the assumptions being made.
