ABSTRACT

Some patients may be admitted to hospital with neurological problems, but others develop complications after admission for other pathologies. More so than many pathophysiologies discussed elsewhere, nursing care significantly contributes to recovery from acute neurological disease; problems, and so nursing care, are often similar, so this chapter begins by identifying key problems caused by brain damage, then describes acute neurological conditions:

n traumatic brain injury (TBI) n epilepsy n Guillain-Barré Syndrome (GBS) n spinal cord injury.
