ABSTRACT

A cornerstone of comprehensive school reforms and charter school designs focuses on increasing school community and the involvement of parents in the lives of school children (Schneider & Teske, 2001; U.S. Department of Education, 1994). It is our contention that clarity in the practical as well as policy implications for family-school relations of comprehensive school reform and charter school models is a critically important scholarly endeavor that holds the potential value of considering strong family-school relationships as a foundation of educational excellence.
