ABSTRACT

The single most important behavioral process in BA is reinforcement. BA's focus on reinforcement establishes it as a member of a long line of successful behavioral treatments that have employed reinforcement to change behavior in controlled settings. In general, these procedures identify the target variable as it occurs live and apply reinforcement contingent on the occurrence of the target variable. A fundamental principle of these applied interventions is that if the clinician has direct access to these contingencies and can manipulate them directly, treatment should be more ef®cient and more effective.
