ABSTRACT
Originally written to accompany a new installation of architectural fragments at the Art Institute of Chicago, this chapter was published in two versions, the first in Assemblage in 1989 and the second in the Art Institute’s own exhibition catalogue in 1990. The version here incorporates material from both while omitting some of the original illustrations.
