ABSTRACT
This chapter was written at the request of Environmental Law in New York and first published there in 2001. Thus while the concepts it outlines, especially the notion of storyscape and story sites, are applicable everywhere, the examples are drawn from New York City, and the legal tools discussed in the last section are oriented towards New York State and may have to be modified elsewhere.
