ABSTRACT

The chapter is predominantly an insider account. We first give a brief account of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), directly addressing a number of specific questions on OECD’s organizational characteristics in the context of globalization. We then present an account of one recent piece of work on higher education, namely the project on internationalization and trade in higher education, which led to the guidelines for quality provision in cross-border higher education. We conclude with some reflections on the role of OECD in relation to higher education in a globalized world.
