ABSTRACT

In the treatment of problem behavior clients, Self-Control Skills Training is often provided as a stand-alone intervention. In the Fairy Tale model, Self-Control Skills Training builds on the preceding steps in the treatment, and anticipates those that follow. When Self-Control Skills Training is presented as part of an agreed-upon treatment plan in the service of the client’s identified goals, he or she is likely to be invested in trying hard to master and use the skills. And by using contemporary daily-life examples for skills practice, the treatment activity addresses the client’s current issues and concerns while also working towards long-term goals.
