Hillary Clinton wore the cloak of inevitability as she launched her presidential bid in the early days of 2007. Her immense name recognition, wide lead in polls of Democratic voters, hefty fundraising capacity, and a massive network of political supporters, together with a natural base among women, made her appear to be the likely Democratic Party nominee for president of the United States in 2008.
