ABSTRACT
My task in this chapter is to draw upon and synthesise the views expressed so far to emerge with what I believe is a plausible means of reconciling the goals of ecological sustainability and full employment. What I ultimately emerge with will reflect my own thoughts on the matter and, as such, will occasionally diverge from the positions taken in some of the previous chapters. In order to achieve my task, I will focus most of my attention on Part III of the book. To recall, Part III centred on a debate concerning the most appropriate ways of ameliorating the social problems of poverty and unemployment. By taking account of what is required to achieve ecological sustainability, I plan to assess how well the various macroeconomic policy approaches put forward in Part III are likely to resolve the two policy goals of full employment and ecological sustainability.
