ABSTRACT

This chapter begins by outlining the history and framework of the UK law making process, the court structures and how the courts of the UK operate. It then considers enforcement of environmental legislation and in particular the requirement for ‘efficient and effective approaches to regulatory inspection and enforcement which improve regulatory outcomes without imposing unnecessary burdens on business, the Third Sector and other regulated entities.’2 Finally this chapter considers enforcement of the law relating to statutory nuisances. At the end of the chapter you will find a further

reading list of books and other publications which you may find helpful. The endnotes provide detail of the papers, cases, legislation, guidance and other material referred to.
