ABSTRACT

This chapter is divided into two sections. The first considers port health at airports and the second at sea ports. There is inevitably some overlap between the two sections but there are also differences between port health at airports and seaports, hence the two sections. It is rare that an EHP will be dealing with both large airports and seaports at the same time in their career. With increasing movement of goods and people

around the globe (and with increasing speed) control of health at ports is an important aspect of environmental health work. One of the greatest concerns is the introduction of infectious disease, and a number of organisations are involved with the prevention of illness being imported. These are covered a little in Chapter 6 but are discussed a little further here in the context of port health. Other organisations are concerned with the quality of imported food and are also considered.
