ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses the provision of care to people who, because of illness, impairment or ageing, require help with personal tasks, help with practical everyday living tasks and/or supervision, guidance and emotional support. It is therefore concerned with help that is given over and above that normally given within close family relationships to non-disabled partners, children or other relatives. The chapter takes forward the Hilary Land’s analysis of community care policies in the first edition of this text.
