ABSTRACT

Sessions on emotional recognition and self-monitoring have worked on establishing the difference between feelings and thoughts and introduced thought monitoring. Negative automatic thoughts have been linked with depressed mood. The following sessions build on this work and constitute the main cognitive elements of the programme. As has been emphasised, some young people will spend all the sessions working with cognitive behavioural techniques whereas younger and less mature adolescents may not have the cognitive maturity to engage with this work. For them, the social skills and problem-solving sessions may be most appropriate.
