ABSTRACT

A carrier is a firm that provides a transportation service – moving cargo and/or passengers from one location to another. These movements may occur by land, water, or air. At cargo ports, water carriers (shipping lines and barge carriers) and land carriers (truck carriers and railroads) move cargo to and from these ports. At passenger ports, water carriers (ferry and cruise lines) and land carriers (buses and taxis) move individuals to and from these ports. Also, carriers are used to move cargo and individuals to and from various locations within the port.
