ABSTRACT
The academy sustains the imperium not only intellectually but also practically. That is, the academy gives the imperium the rationale for its acts of power. Here, the House of IR serves both functions for the academy most effectively. By the House of IR, we refer to mainstream theories within the discipline of IR and the social relations that give them relative positions of power within the academy and world politics.
