ABSTRACT
Working memory is generally assumed to contribute to language acquisition by children and to language processing by children and adults. This chapter begins with an overview of working memory, focusing on tests used to assess working memory capacity and executive function. It concludes by reviewing research on the development of working memory across the life span and the role of working memory in language acquisition and language processing.
