Jaspers reviewed the years 800-200 BCE, and was impressed with the number of revolutionary thinkers who emerged in the 500 or more years before Christ, men who reoriented human thought in new directions: The Buddha, Plato, Zoroaster, Confucius, Jeremiah in Jerusalem. Here were founding sages with new ideas whose fresh intellectual recastings renewed the ancient world’s bloodstream.1
