ABSTRACT

The acceleration of globalization in recent decades has led to widespread efforts to develop appropriate forms of governance to deal effectively with emerging challenges. Intense debates have ensued about the imperfections of existing institutions, as well as the desired features of emerging forms of governance. Global governance for health concerns the institutional settings and relationships in which health goals are collectively agreed upon and pursued by state and nonstate actors. The universal value placed on human health has contributed to considerable institutional innovation, but also to critical refl ection on how collective health goals are defi ned and acted upon.
