ABSTRACT

Part of the rationale for the research was to compare and contrast literacies for learning between the Scottish, English and Welsh colleges, given the different policy and curriculum contexts. In order to do this, it was decided that one of the curriculum areas studied within each of the colleges would be Childcare. This area was of particular interest for this research because language and literacy not only mediate the students’ learning, but are also subjects to be learnt about, since children’s language and literacy development are part of the content of Childcare courses.
