ABSTRACT

This chapter details the second program undertaken by SSI to tackle the exclusion that had taken place on the ground level in India. This chapter describes our extensive work in Dharavi for more than sixteen years building up to a two-year action research project in the community we did with UNICEF entitled “Inclusive Education Practice in Early Childhood in Mumbai,” India.1 With the launching of NRCI-I, I was keen to focus on inclusive education and underprivileged children in the slums settlements, or ‘community’ as we tend to call them.
