ABSTRACT

This chapter is concerned to look at ways in which the attributes of physical literacy can be fostered by the appropriate selection of material in the interaction between practitioner and participant. What is introduced or taught can influence growth in physical competence and ready interaction with a variety of environments. It can also foster motivation, self-confidence, selfexpression and effective relationships with others. In addition, the content and its presentation can ensure that all individuals have the opportunity to acquire knowledge and understanding of movement and of issues concerned with the relationship between physical activity and health. The notions of breadth and balance underpin much of the debate.
