ABSTRACT

Most books and articles devoted to Richard Wagner deal with only one or at most two or three specific issues: his political opinions, for instance, or his years in Dresden, or harmonic aspects of the Tristan Prelude. A few publications, however, attempt to deal with all of Wagner, or at least with more than a few aspects of his career and accomplishments. This chapter is devoted to identifying and describing such publications; among these are anthologies of studies by one or more scholars, compendia of several kinds, dictionary and encyclopaedia entries, handbooks, “readers,” and periodicals devoted entirely or primarily to the composer and his world.
