ABSTRACT

The previous chapters studied the potential of class transformation for the Broadway musicians and the reasons why they should employ a classtransformative strategy. Each chapter in this book focused on the critical role unions should play in the class transformation process. That is, unions should be both facilitating and implementing class transformation. In the prototype proposed in Chapter 4, the Broadway musicians form their own orchestras and then sell the services of the full orchestra to a Producer. This relatively subtle change enables the Broadway musicians to eradicate their current exploitative situation-from capitalist exploited workers to communist non-exploited workers. In order to fully explain how and why the Broadway musicians will be better off post-transformation than without one, issues examined in Chapter 3 such as safety and health, worker participation, and job security will be further analyzed. This class transformation is revolutionary, but it is not a utopian dream. In this chapter I provide concrete examples of how this transformation can be accomplished.
